The Adventures of

Rubber-Man had just returned to the Townhouse of Solitude for a recharging cup of tea after a long day in the car with the Wiener-heads when the phone rang! Could it be the President asking for Rubber-Man and Zehr's Womans' help with a cell of crazed Taliban terrorists? Could it be the Commissioner to tell him about a new psychotic masked super-villain with an amusingly alliterative name? NO!! (Besides the Commissioner would use the RZ signal anyways....) It was Rubber-Man's Stupervisor calling him back to work. Next week. Midnights again..... man I gotta find another farmer. So gentle readers it's only going to be a $550.00 kick in the wallet for your favourite pair of superheroes, so we'll be OK. Zehr's-Woman doesn't even know yet, she's off at work taming the wild Robo-cashiers! (see chapter 3). But my favourite gal in green should be pleased. |
| I wish I'd known earlier though. Today is a P.A. day so the Wiener-heads and I drove into London, to find the Guide Shop to buy colleen's Pathfinder uniform. She has decided that she can cope with Pathfinders, Choir and Youth Group, plus homework. Although she's getting over a cold so she's not camping this weekend. But if I'd known I was working I could've splashed out and taken us to Harvey's for lunch. Elizabeth would've been pretty miffed if we had gone to Harvey's without her (our local Harvey's went under a while ago, now our only choice is McD's.....) but I think we would've survived. So instead we grabbed some buns and juice boxes at a grocery store to hold us until we got home. Oh well, good lesson in frugality for them anyway. |

The Mighty Green Z is installing four "U-Scan" lanes at the store to help with the volume of customers. This means 4 more tills for Zehr's-Woman to balance and they are very cash intensive. You can pay with cash, credit or ATM card at these things apparently. The bill readers can only handle one kind of currency, so the American tourists will have problems. But if it means the customers don't pile up in the lines as quickly then she can spend more time in the office working rather than coming out to help with customers. The Robo-cashiers are to be unleashed tomorrow, so I hope all goes well. No technology is fool proof and my honey-bun will have to deal with it on Sunday. |

Of course now that I'm going back to work on Sunday night, I'm all bummed out. I had gotten rather used to being off, hadn't had a chance to get bored yet and there is still money in the bank. I got the first draft of one project finished (another one needs a rewrite soon). Got the house cleaned (and no, I'm not coming over to do yours either, so just forget about it) and got the oven cleaned. Spent a morning at the U.I. office getting my claim started and an afternoon mowing the out of control hayfield that we refer to as the 'lawn'. Made dinner. Took care of the family. Picked up the pieces of Zehr's-Woman when she came home and collapsed on the coach. Pretty full week really and I didn't get nearly as many soldiers painted as I'd hoped either. I'm not sure how rich folks can be bored. I guess boredom is for those who hate reading and don't have hobbies? But I have several friends who are teachers, so I'm going to pick their brains and plot my plan of action. I'm working next week, but the week after is anyone's guess. The boss looked pretty scared the last time I saw her. As Sinbad the Sailor says "Trust is Allah, but tie up your camel." |

The best movie that I've seen since Fargo has got to be O Brother, Where Art Thou? It's Homer's Odyssey retold in Depression era Mississippi with George Clooney as Ulysses. I liked it so much I bought the sound track, which I don't do normally; lots of blue-grass, blues and old country on it. Musicologists call it "American Roots" music. I have it in between Bananarama and AC/DC in the CD-player (kidding!) But "The Soggybottom Boys" singing "Man of Constant Sorrow" is excellent. I hum it a lot at work. Speaking of singing, Colleen's choir sings at Mass Saturday evening. And Elizabeth is off work, so we'll be together for once! Rachael and I are going fishing with the Girl Guides tomorrow to earn their "Angler Badge". I borrowed some life jackets in case we fall in! |
Thanks for all your kind thoughts and prayers,
James
