Christmas at Home 2004

December 25, 2004

In the morning Alexander went to sing at St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral as part of the choir. He sings tenor now.  He opened the stocking before he went to the church. We did our gift giving after he returned from singing.

Anthony was on-call for the transplant unit and was called in twice (later in the day) to the hospital. We had a Christmas dinner between his calls.  However, for most of the day we just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company.

Ana was pleasantly surprised by a call from her Aunts: Laurinda and Olimpia. They have just moved back to St. Catharines from the Azores (Uncle John, too).  It was wonderful to talk to them. She had not done so in years.

Christmas at Home

Christmas Stocking

Alexander with the Christmas Stocking. This is before going to St. Paul's to sing.

Stocking Gifts

A penguin full of hand lotion.

Books

Easy to carry hard cover books. Alexander received a Sherlock Holmes collection, Dracula, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Puzzle

Alexander enjoyes wooden puzzles

Puzzle

Here is a close-up of the wooden puzzle. Alexander really enjoys doing these and has a small collection of puzzles and mind twisters.

The Men

Anthony and Alexander enjoy a moment together before Alexander has to leave to go sing.

Christmas Treats

Christmas treats on the coffee table. This is after Alexander has arrived home from church and as we begin to exchange gifts.

Christmas Decorations

Some of the decorations we have scattered around our home.

Alexander

This is a gift to Alexander from our friend Jill Hammond

A Penguin

Wow! Alexander loves the gift from Jill!

Penguin

Close-up of the penguin Jill gave Alexander.

Another Penguin

This is a gift from Ana to Alexander. Can you tell Alexander likes penguins? (He has a penguin shower curtain in his bathroom!)

The Invisible Man

Alexander's favorite "horror/sci fi" film! This was from Anthony.

Cosi Fan Tutte

A complete score to the opera "Cosi Fan Tutte" by Mozart.

Crumb!

Robert Crumb is Alexander's favorite cartoonist. Alexander has been inpired by Crumb's drawing style and draws in a similar style.

The Complete Crumb Comics

This collection is going give Alexander hours of entertainment. (Even if mom thinks Crumb's cartoon content is "Sick"!)

Trivial Pursuit

This will give us hours of fun. We don't have cable or satalite television so we spend more time playing games, reading, and watching DVDs together.

Cool DVDs

Anthony is admiring the cool DVDs that our friend, Jill Hammond, has given him. He is really thrilled with these and we ended up watching the Superman DVD later that evening (after Anthony returned from his second call to the hospital) with a coffee and some pumpkin cheesecake.

Jade Chopsticks

Alexander purchased these for his dad. Anthony truly enjoys eating Oriental foods with chopsticks. This is a very good gift for Anthony since we enjoy Oriental food on a regular basis. He can hardly wait to try them out!

Big Gift!

Okay, what's in here?

Nice Wrapping

This wrapping is too nice to just tear open. Obviously it was NOT wrapped by Ana. Hmmmm could it have been Jonhathon!?!? (Ugh, he guessed!)

Admiring

Anthony is admiring the gift that Ana gave him.

Ceramic Bowl

Anthony really loves ceramics. This beautiful bowl was purchased at Jonathon's Gallery (and Jonathon, himself, wrapped the gift for Anthony). Jonathon's has all kinds of wonderful ceramic work on display and for sale.

Margarita Kit

Jill knows that Ana's favorite alcoholic drink is a Margarita. (Ana is not a big drinker, she prefers water to most drinks). Here is a kit that Jill Hammond gave to Ana and I am sure Jill will be over to help Ana enjoy the drinks. :)

Smile

Ana smiling for the camera with her gift from Jill Hammond

Hair Pin

Anthony gave Ana this beautiful hair pin. She loves it!

Touched

Ana really enjoys the show "Touched by an Angel" but has only ever watched in once a year when the boys were out trick or treating (Anthony and Alexander don't care for his show). Now Ana can watch the full first season (when the men are NOT home). Yeah! Thanks guys!

WOW

This is absolutely wonderful! The complete collection of The New Yorker Cartoons up until the end of 2004! It comes with 2 CDs of all the cartoons, plus a HUGE selection of them in the book. This is a beautiful volume and Ana will keep it in the living room so everyone can enjoy it.

The End

Well, that pretty well does it for our Christmas at Home. We had a nice relaxing day (with the exception of Anthony's call-in to the hospital). We ended our day with a game of Trivial pursuit, which we finished on the 26th because it was late and Ana needed to get to bed.
