This section will be used to share some of my favorite recipes,
tips, diet information, and cooking experiences. Most of the recipes you
will find in this section will be both diabetic and heart friendly when
possible.
Below the Handy Tips section you will find a list of my
favourite cookbooks. These are the cookbooks that I use over and over again
because they are user friendly, have great recipes, and I just absolutely enjoy
using them. If you see it on this page, then you know I highly recommend the
book. I have several shelves of cookbooks in my kitchen, but I will not be
including any books that I have not found useful (I may even auction some off on
eBay).
At the bottom of this page you will find more interesting, information-packed
food, diet, and health links.
Come back often to see what new recipes and information has been
added to this section. (Like all sections of this website, updates are
slow and steady due to a lack of time on Ana's part.)

Make full recipes, or double,
divide into proper portions immediately and store. Take the saved
portion for lunch the next day, or to reheat and serve another night (when
you may not as much time to cook).

keep cans in the refrigerator until you need them, then open them carefully

Joy of Cooking

|
By Irma S. Rombauer, Ethan
Becker, Marion Rombauer Becker
This is the Bible of
cookbooks. Whenever I need to know how to do something, I just
look it up in here. This is the best cookbook and reference book
available. Mine is well worn from use. |

Cooking for the Rushed

|
By Sandi Richard
This book takes the thinking
out of everyday cooking. It is organized so that you have a complete
healthy meal (supper) ready by the time you finish the page in the
book. The meals are delicious, easy to prepare, fast, and stress-free.
All ingredients are readily available at any grocery store. The book
is beautifully designed so that all information is easy to follow. It
tells you what cooking utensils you will need so you can get ready
quickly. The book is divided into five-day sections, with a shopping
list for each week. This is the perfect book for tired, over-worked,
stressed-out people. You can fix yourself, and your family, a
delicious nutritious meal very quickly, very inexpensively, and with
minimum effort. This is the ideal weekday cookbook!
I highly recommend any of Sandi Richard's books. They are all based on
the same principles and are a wonderful companion to any kitchen.

Program for Reversing
Heart Disease

The Only System Scientifically Proven to Reverse Heart Disease Without
Drugs or Surgery |
By Dr. Dean Ornish
The recipes are delicious and easy to make. Ornish
promotes a low fat vegetarian diet. He explains how to combine the
ingredients so that you get the most nutrients out of each meal. This
is the healthiest vegetarian diet you will find.
Ornish bases his book on an extensive study that found
his "Opening Your Heart" program resulted in the reversal of coronary
artery blockage. He gives thorough background to his study, backing up
his claims with scientific evidence, and provides case histories of
people who have followed the program. In describing ways to reverse
heart disease, he offers suggestions on how to control diet (with
helpful recipes from noted chef Wolfgang Puck), as well as on how to
quit smoking and how to exercise.

Eat More, Weigh Less
 |
By Dr. Dean Ornish Based
on the research Ornish did for reversing heart disease, Ornish found
that people were losing weight, and keeping it off using his methods.
About 250 gourmet recipes from two dozen famous chefs help ease the
blow to those who view becoming vegetarian as a dramatic lifestyle
change. This book is a great companion to Reversing Heart Disease.
Anthony and I were following Ornish's program for
about three years and we never felt healthier an better than during
that time. We went off the program when we decided not to feed
Alexander a strictly vegetarian diet (and it was too much for me to
cook two meals each night). Starting in April 2004, we are going back
onto the Ornish program.
I highly recommend any book by Dr. Dean Ornish.
